Hi new to forum and Harley . Is this seat and backrest genuine? It is on the 58 pan I have. Or what year might it be? Did the really have such a zany speckled cover or might this have been done by some hippy? Jerry

Re: seat
So back to the question , the seat is definitely a cover but is it original and is the backrest a HD part? What year is the disk brake or have the forks been changed to make it work? Lots of questions but all my experience is with British bikes. Jerry

Re: seat
Disc up front came in 1972 on the glide fork. You need to post pictures of the seat pan , could be aftermarket or HD. The seat rail looks like its a modified rail, high back. Are you planning a restoration? Put up some detail pictures of frame , ect.jerryd wrote:So back to the question , the seat is definitely a cover but is it original and is the backrest a HD part? Re: seat
It is what it is . It was pulled out of a barn/shed. Previous owner was an "81" so careful what you say he may be reading this. Actually he is a nice guy. I plan to at first make it road worthy. It has not been run since 2010. So is the whole front fork a 72 or just the wheel and disc /caliper? I will need to know when I look for parts. There were no brakes when I brought it home . I since cleaned the master and have the front working and am heading into the rear wheel this week. I took off the bag guards today but that is as far as I got. Jerry

Re: seat
Jerry,
It looks like a triple-whammy version of a buddy seat rail. Maybe 3 of the upper rear portions of a seat rail stacked up and welded together? If the former owner is 81, he may have needed the extra back support .

Re: seat
The seat is most likely just a custom recovered stock seat base. the rail and backrest are custom.
Also, the front fender, the bumpers, the bag rails and mounts, the alarm , the gas tanks, the rear fender, the oil cooler, the spotlights and mounting bar, the turn signals, the rear chainguard, the horn, and the handlebar controls are all incorrect for the bike. All the stuff looks like it was stripped off of a '70s model and switched over.
sorry, but not much '58 there.
