I used a couple of dabs of black silicone on the rubber and let it sit to dry, before installing the dash.

Silicone has a hard time sticking to rubber!,Without the proper primer!--It will get loose from the little expansion that does happen!--You are better off with the tape!.--If you are not concerned about OEM--I have a 100-foot roll of dash-rubber that actually has Alum. in it-(.020).-You simply cut to size with sissors & Squeeze it as you put it in its U channel!--Along with the nut it wont move!--This stuff comes up 3/16s on both sides of dash & is 3/32s thick!.---Respectfully----Richie!-------Im SOOO SORRY for the X-TRA POSTS!, Another cleaning should unstick my mouse--OR just BUY a new one---Richie

jade,
Once the dash is in place the rubber edge trim should find a resting place against the tanks and not go anywhere. If you have an aftermarket dash with a bad fit (common), you can always tweak, bend, or trim the bottom edges of the dash to get a decent fit. The aftermarket dashes that I've seen appear to have been made to conform to aftermarket gas tanks, which are not even close to the same profile as original tanks. No doubt the same is true when using original dash and aftermarket tanks, and I wouldn't be surprised if the aftermarket dash doesn't conform to the aftermarket tanks either :) . Spend a little time and get a nice fit without the goobers and adhesives.

I agree 100 % there's absolutely no need at all for the glue.

If you need to go the glue route nothing beats good old fashioned 3-M weatherstrip adheasive. (the yellow snot like stuff)

i use it for motorcycle grips and keeping the hub caps on my truck.

one tube will last a normal lifetime if kept sealed.

If you choose to go the snot route :) , the yellow 3M weatherstrip adhesive that JohnHD mentions is also available in black now. That 3M stuff really does do a good job of sticking!

I finally tossed an old tube of 3M emblem adhesive purchased in "93" to put a bar and shield on my wife's Sportster sissy bar. I had gotten used to poking a new hole every time I used it, since the cap lost it's threads...

Call Old Dude in Georgia, get a better gasket. They just push on the dashboard, and don't require a whole lot of effort. 877-653-3833

The gasket doesn't do a 90, it ends at the bottom of the curve in the front. It doesn't turn any corners.
