The 7s are good ,& my 58flh has Hs on the rear mount!--Apic of the case stamp is where we could verify correct #s!--use a piece of black-tape on the last digits if you don't want them in space!--RICHIE/--Also a pic of BELLY #S is a good thing!

You have 62 cases with a 58 vin.
Post a vin photo, we can usually tell if a dealer stamped it or some bozo.

You should have an H stamped on the rear mount area of each case half.

According to Bruce Palmer's book, the vin says it is a 1958 model year. The 162 in the crankcase means it is a 74 ci ("1") and the crankcase was machined in 1962 ("62). So a 58 model year could not have been machined in 1962. Something is amiss.

The 162 belly numbers and the 7s on the upper point to it as having started its life as a '62FL, hence the lack of Hs identifying the cases as FLH. The '58 VIN is not consistent with any reason other than if the cases were replaced by later ones at some point in its life. Whether legitimately or otherwise is difficult to say, and any stamping whether dealer, thief, government agency, etc, does not make it correct as originally built by H-D. Without supporting documentation the general consensus is that modified numbers are an attempt to cover the originals for illicit purposes.
