I think there are a few bogus #'s posted in there as well. They may have been marked as bogus at one time?

This is a quote from that site:

"In the past I had posed an album of numbers I judged as being good. I was mistaken in a few cases. I'm posting this album without any personal judgment as to the veracity of any of them".

Rod, at least two types of 6 were used in the SN year portion for 1962. Bruce Palmer didn’t mention them both for that year in his 1937–64 book and he even stated on pages 627 and 629 that by 1962 the year portion returns to using the straight-back 6. This is one of several things relating to SNs that I mentioned to Bruce via email last year but he was already aware of the two types when I contacted him. He replied that he’d already covered it for the new book and he said it is only the early 1962s that have the curved 6 in 62 (year portion). My research so far supports his new opinion because I see the round-back 6 occurring in the year portion through the 2000?/2001?-2999 block but only part of, not all of, the 4000?/4001?-4999 block. So the change seems to have happened somewhere during that second block of numbers.

Also notice when the 6 in the year portion is rounded then its accompanying 2 is sans serif but when the 6 in the year portion is a straight-back then the accompanying 2 is seriffed. And notice the seriffed 2 in the year portion is different to the seriffed 2 in the sequence portion.

dbanana, caution is advised when viewing the numbers on the VAM website. Often there is no mention of which numbers are authentic and which ones are not. Even some authentic examples are incorrectly identified—for instance, on the first page of case numbers you’ll see blue crankcases said to have SN 36UL2560. However, one problem is immediately spotted and that is the model year which should be 37. The second problem is that the third sequence character is not 6 but is instead 8 and we know that because the SN was discussed on CAI in December 2009 and I contacted the seller who confirmed the SN was in fact 37UL2580.

The 5 looks familiar.

At one time, dealers had their own "factory" stamps, some of which have survived. I wonder if they were distinct.

Cotten, are you suggesting that in the photo you posted that you think the first character has a top serif? Thanks.

hibuck1, I see 7s not Hs on the top rear of each case half. Was there a photo of the inside of the left case? Thanks.
