Re: Help with. Case numbers
Stack--is it a RESTO-TITLE?---cause it would start with year of motor as you know.Maybe adtermarket case.---Hopefully somebody else can give a bstter explamation!--But in the past/these type of #s were aftermarket /or perhaps the case was craked & it went right to the #pad!--(hence the resto-Title!---RICHIE

Re: Help with. Case numbers
All factory stamped cases back into the twenties follow the same format, two digits specifying the year, on or more letters specifying the model, and a sequence of numbers that are the serial number portion. Anything other than that was not applied at the factory and can mean anything. There are also many re-stamped, forged, or otherwise tampered with cases. Some were legitimate replacements, some were stamped over stolen items, and some are just random odd stampings, as it sounds like you may have.
If what you have is titled as such it is only an issue if it is questioned by law enforcement as being incorrect, in which case the burden of proof is on you.
A picture of what you have would help to identify it. Many thousands of WL and some UL cases were sold as surplus parts with no numbers on them. Some were titled over the years as rebuilt or special construction vehicles. Some are plain junk. Do yours still retain the factory belly numbers? And the date codes? Those things will at least give you a base date of manufacture.
Keep in mind that the cases are the heart of the bike and real factory numbers constitute much of its value. Generally building something around a pair of cases with altered or missing numbers is throwing away good money after bad.
Just my opinion

Re: Help with. Case numbers
Nice Bike. Shame about the numbers though. They don't relate to anything and were likely stamped into a set of blank military surplus cases. Do you have a title for the bike? Those numbers may be the last four digits of the originals, but they could also be any made up number. Cases with good numbers are fairly easy to find for 45s so all is not lost. What are the belly numbers?
