Correct muffler bracket for rigid frane

#1

Post by Mr Mach1 »

I've been trying to mount my muffler but can't find the correct clamp to clear the rear crash bar and mount flat. I've got a black reppop muffler to use till i can get a chrome one. Anyone got a pic of what it should like like or what part # actually fits? Ive bought two so far and neither is right as the bends won't let it clamp flat like a "P".

Thanks

65292-41 (black), 65293-50 (chrome).
Deluxe HD restorations has nice repo clamps.

Leon, here's a picture of what the clamps look like. The one on the left is for hanging the muffler off the rear axle plate, the middle clamp grabs the Y pipe and bolts to the mount to the right of the trans, and the two clamps on the the right attach to the the front head pipe and the right frame down tube down by the mount for the brake pedal.

First off your crash bar should have a flat washer between it and the frame
then a lock washer under the crash bar nut.
The muffler hanger clamp should be stainless steel with 2 bolt holes.
Part # 65293-50
49 was a stainless steel year, all nuts, bolts and washers parkerized..
Olddude.com sells these clamps and all the hardware you need.

Actually, '49 mufflers and clamps are black and are the -41 style muffler with a Stainless cover over it. The torpedo style muffler did not come out until the 1950 model year.

Robbie is correct, the stainless hanger is for 50 and up, my mistake.
49 is still the stainless year for parts such as, clutch pedal pivot cover, generator end cover, rocker covers, air cleaner cover, timer cover, outer primary inspection covers, stainless steel muffler cover, the "muffler" was painted black silicone while the rest of the exhaust was painted silver silicone paint.
