I scored a 23 tooth unit on Ebay, its never been run and has #55A stamped on the gear. could this be a factory part?

Yes it is a factory part, I have one, NOS and on the box is has:

AMF Harley Davidson
40282 55A

And on the gear is also has the 55A stamped on it.

I will try and get a pic posted.

Hello All,

New compensating sprocket is on, primary cover wont clear. I thought this cover had the large hump for this application, could it be the inner cover thats the problem? I need to do some research.
My cover measures 1 7/8" deep at the hump, with that measurement would this be the right cover or not?

Thanks
Chuck

If your cover is a "diamond" type it is incorrect and won't fit, although there are some aftermarket types with an extended front pocket that do. The correct '55 up covers will fit properly. which do you have?

Robbie!
Mine is the diamond type. this cover also has a slight interferance with the rear foot board mount, the last owner made a small crease in the cover to clear the rear mount. Will my clutch cover that is on my diamond cover fit onto the correct '55 up cover? VT sells some replica covers or is there a better supplier for them that you know of?

Your inner will work and is likely the correct one otherwise it wouldn't bolt up to the '55 up engine cases. Paughco would probably be your best bet for aftermarket and if you want to keep the diamond look they offer one, #751 chrome or B751 black.

Robbie, do you know if the Paughco will clear the stock foot boards?

Sorry but I cannot tell you. It has been a while since I used any of theirs and can't vouch for fit. Perhaps someone else has current info.
