Re: DATE CODE?
See that raised lip on the inner bead area. That is a safety bead rim. It became standard in '68, it was optional for police earlier.

Re: DATE CODE?
Thank you Robbie, I thought it was a latter rim, did they have any production year indications at all?

Re: DATE CODE?
Actually they do not at all look the same from the outside. And it matters to those that care about being correct. Some folks just wouldn't understand! If it looks the same from the outside,I dont see why it even matters?

Re: DATE CODE?
Adam,
The parts books show the safety bead as an option after '62 or so. The rims made from '62 up for regular production have a -62 part number on them. Yours looks like the early optional one. Good trading material.
A certain member here would probably rather have a cheap aftermarket one though so don't ask him!

Re: DATE CODE?
Adam, Robbbie,
I don't know what you guys are looking at, or what you think you see, but the rim in the very first picture is definitely a kelsey-hayes rim made in October of 1947. K-H was famous for that, they stamped the month in one direction and the year in the opposite direction. common practice. What kind of hub that rim is laced to is an entirely different story, its anybody's guess.

Look again at that picture. And notice I never mentioned the date code. What I DID mention is the rim profile, with what appears to be a safety bead, a feature that did not exist in '47. The later picture of a '47 rim is the correct profile. The first info I find on the "safety type" rim is a '57 number for Police Use.
So I don't know what they first rim date is, but the rim itself could not exist in '47 with a safety bead!
Panacea,
No, since all rims after '62 have a part number stamped in them.could that be a 67?

Robbie
yep, its a mystery. As you said it is not a 67 but it is definitely a Kelsey-Hayes and it appears to be a safety rim. That picture that Jerry posted of the April 47 rim is one of my old WL rims, I took that picture, don't know where he found it.
I cropped that original photo and turned it sideways, I sure don't see a "5" in that first character. It looks like a partial "4" but it may not be that either.

Re: DATE CODE?
Ive seen a few rims with the 47 stamp, so I'm thinking its a generic stamp?introduction year? But like Robbie said, the safely bead existed 10 years later.....you would think it would have a 57 stamp, or a different part number...anyone got any rims they could send a picture of the stampings? interesting stuff!
