Read a piece of info recently that inferred H-D used the Fan generator through '67 at least. My question is this: Did H-D really offer a 12 volt version of the fan generator? I'm assuming all bikes 65 and newer were electric start, therefore they must have been 12 volts. I've looked in my parts book, and can't find any 12 volt stuff for the Fan unit.
Just being curious, inquiring minds want to know.
As an aside, I've been running my own 12volt conversion on a fan genny on the 65 pan, 4 years now, works great, and makes more reliable power than a 65A, for things like the heated gloves I wore on the ride to Daytona in 2013. 3500 miles of trouble free riding.

Re: A 12 volt Fan generator?
I've never seen or heard of anything like that. My buddy has a 65 ex-Police bike and it has the normal 12V generator.

Re: A 12 volt Fan generator?
No fan cooled 12V generator was ever built as there was no need of such a thing. The 6V fan cooled generator was used to power components with a high amperage draw. After the switch to 12V there was no longer the draw on the system as 12V components draw approximately half of what 6V items do and the 2 brush standard 12V generator was well up to the task when using a three component regulator. The fan cooled generator went away with the last of the 6V bikes in '64. All the parts books list it as such, and police literature of the mid '60s tout the new 12V systems superiority.
