restoration type question

Post by thepigstye »

We've been trying to pin point a date as to when this particular logo battery went into use. The earliest we have seen it was in the 1966 Service manual that covers all models. Anyone care to chime in with more info or an educated guess.?

As I pointed out in my response on the Hummer Club site, that logo did not exist prior to the '66 model year on any H-D products. So keep in mind that it includes late '65 as a new release logo.

Robbie!

It was probably a lie, but I read somewhere on the internet that it was introduced in '64 on golf carts.

Cotten,
The emblem top center in the picture is a Golf Cart emblem #61779-63 as per my '63 parts book (first year for the Golf Carts) and is a bar and shield. The supplements for both gas and electric versions for '64 show no new part numbers or any change in the cosmetics.

I recall reading somewhere before about twenty years ago that it first appeared in 64, but I can't remember for the life of me where I read that.

As a side note. Robbie, what is that two tone coin object down near the lower left? it bears a striking resemblance to our two dollar coin.

Robbie!

Perhaps it wasn't the badge, but embossed into some piece of hardware, such as a lens, or starter motor, or... umm.... battery?

(I'm curious what golf carts used for a starter motor, before 12V?
If it was a starter-generator, I want a 12v for my Scout.)

The only anecdote that my feeble memory can dredge was that it was part of an attempt to soften H-D's image. (Today, that's called re-branding.)

PS: I got much too upset when I found it upon my first '65's lower windshield.

Whew, that's ugly, Robbie!

But the ignition advance mechanism is more than interesting.
(My hooligan bar-buddies were ripping off the wrong hardware, as they stole just the badges.)

I guess I'm back to kicking, and an IndianFrank@yahoo.com generator.

Just for a sampling, Folks,

A close associate just revealed to me that he had stashed a '64 golf cart in one of his barns, or whatever.
I asked what emblems or badges were upon it,
and he answered: "The same as my '66".

For what that's worth,
