59 oil breather stud ( goes through crank case)

Post by neilw »

I"m installing my inner primary and have a breather assembly 58-63 I'm sending 2 photos,It doesnt look quite like the parts book .I have the 8"inch or so shaft threaded on both ends .One ends threaded into a 1/4" thick spacer thing with 4 holes in it .Over that is a kinda cover that doesn't seem to want to come off ( I didn't try very hard at all) the cover has a round hole in the end maybe 5/8 " in diameter (its all in the pics),and over that I figuring the breather nipple goes..So far so good ,but the other end of the shaft has only a nut ,no room for a washer even. The book shows part 24925-58 breather stud spacer goes on that end but doesn't show the nut .
I was just taking a second look and the spacer in the photo with a 1/2 " hole in it has a ridge on one side that fits real nice into the left side of the case where the stud comes through .it would steady a otherwise floppy stud, and the 1/2 inch hole would let oil fumes throgh to the nipple. If I hooked it up this way it seems right ( to my common sense) ,but I would have room only for a nut and, maybe a real thin washer on the right side of the case .Am I right on this ??
