Delco Remy #16 horn adjustments

#1

Post by 48moon »

Does anyone know a fool-proof way to adjust a springer horn after completely tearing it apart? Mainly the distance to set the diaphram adjustment screw (air gap) from the coil. I have it working but am concerned the diaphragm is traveling too far.
Heck, maybe someone could post a sound file of what a properly adjusted one sounds like...

Thanks,

Thanks to Perry and 55Pan. That is an excellent discourse on the old bleeter.

While we are on the subject, I seem to have a wiring problem with mine. Unless the motor is running (and charging) I just get a bip or a low moan out of the horn. At crusing speeds it emits a healthly beep. So I suspect there is a resistance problem.
Does the horn button complete the circuit on the hot or ground side? If it is the ground side my bars may be too isloated if it's on the hot I will suspect the button contact.
Thanks

Thanks for the link! That's pretty much what I did. Hopefully I'll hear a couple at Oley later this month for comparison.

Thank you for the link. With the info, I managed to fix a defect horn for my 1975 FLH 1200. Step by step it becomes more original.
