I suggest you pass on Powersonic and go with Yuasa.

Been running 3 - 6 volt 7 AH Powersonic batteries wired in parallel in gutted battery boxes for years. Never had a problem and they have been lasting for years. Not sure who is selling the gutted battery boxes though.

Bates makes a imitation H-2 battery box that will hold a smaller battery inside but it’s well over $100 for the box alone.

I gutted a dead H-2 battery and stuffed a $30 Sigmas Tek SP12-15 sealed lead acid inside. For 6 volt, two $19 SP6-12’s will fit. Last summer I replaced a 6V Sigmas Tek in a different bike that lasted 8 years.

For a lot less money (and a messy job) you can make this set up yourself. Works great with my Cycle Electric 12V generator which is not the low voltage model.
These SLA batteries work with kick only bikes, can’t pull the cranking amps. For electric start you’d need a different battery.

I cover the open side of the gutted battery with a piece of thick rubber so the connections will not short.

Thanks for the post and pics. That looks like a good set up to me. I'd like to know though... will this 6v Sigmas Tek work safely running 3 brush generator with stock cut-out relay?

Read the side of that battery and it answers your question. "Constant Voltage Charge"

I believe the only battery that will last using a cut out relay is a wet cell lead acid.
The 12V 15 Amp Hour battery I have says on the case for cyclic use charging voltage should be 14.4-14.9 volts, the 6 volt model says 7.2-7.5 volts.

That's what I was afraid of. Guess I'd rather find out now than during the explosion.

Change your 3 brush to 2 brush and replace the relay with a regulator. There's a Shop Dope the factory put out with detailed instructions. Then run whatever battery you want.
