1949 WL - Oil Pump Check Valve Springs

#1

Post by 1962300 »

Can someone please confirm what the overall FREE length of the Oil Pump Check Valve Springs should be?

703-36 = Original part number
26363-36 = Revised part number
I believe their free length should be 1-9/32".
(Mine came out of the pump measuring less; thus seem sot be worn)

I ordered 2 new springs & their overall free length is 1-3/4"; way taller.
New springs are in the image on the left side; mine are on the right.

AND....
I'm into this oil pump / scavenger pump exploration, as my bike sumps & spits out a LOT of oil if left for a month.
Is this normal for the 45 model?

Thanks

Sumping has always been a big problem on ball-controlled oilflow bikes like Harleys and many a Brit bike..
Sometimes relapping a ball into the pump housing will solve it, often not permanently..
Oil-seeping can also occur through the pumpgasket.
In an attempt to cure my sumping problems..I installed a checkvalve in the feedline.
But that's me..

<<< Ball Valve >>>
It is guaranteed to work....
Most folks won't even know it's not supposed to be there if using a vintage style valve as pictured.
I even used one on my ho-made Evo...

Actually...it is a cone with a hole, not a ballvalve

They changed the pressure settings for 1941; from 18 to 30 lbs.
The longer the spring, the higher its preload (with the screw in the same position).
Hence the revised spring length..I guess
