58 pan jiffy stand spring on foot clutch

Post by roman »

Ok have tried 3 different new jiffy stand springs. All at spec length, OEM and repop. None hold the leg tight to the bike when retracted, always a couple inches of flop, doesn’t fall but rattles. Probably the holes for spring hooks are worn but that amount of flop seems excessive. Any success with alternative springs?

Look at both holes for wear, egg shaping oppose spring hooks to one another if possibly, condition of extreme wear in frame bracket side inside where stand rest is stand flat spotted in this area also from wear

Do you have the right stand? Some have the spring eyelet welded further up or down the length depending on the model it was meant for. Shouldn't be a problem for the stock stand.

I couldn't find the picture of what I did, but it was simple. I just drilled another hole in the tab on the leg further away from the pivot point and relocating the spring'd hook there. Thus tightening the spring and holding the stand up tight in the park position. You may also need to reposition the hole in the frame bracket to lengthen the installed spring. In the old days we used to use bed springs, chromed, of course....

Here's a pic of how I tightened up the SS spring. It did help....
