Duoglide Rear Crashbar mounting

#1

Post by panhead_kicker »

Can someone describe and/or place a close up pic of the right side crash bar upper and lower mounting points for a Duoglide ? Upper mounting is mostly what I am after. I have what I believe to be rear OEM bars, but the upper mount hole in the bar is relatively small diameter (~7/16") , compared to the shock mounting stud diameter (~5/8") which I expected to pass through it. Either my bars are wrong, my shock stud is wrong, or the bar mounts some where else that is not obvious to me.

G'day, The Duo's mounted the rear crash bars, in front of the shock stud, thru the top frame tube. Shock stud mounting didn't come till
latter on. This location is also used for Buddy seat helper spring mounting.

Cheers
Pete

I can see it now, after noting the long thru frame "stud" in the parts catalog. I never paid attention to the location when looking at bikes first hand, I had assumed it was the same as a slab side shovel mount.
Thanks Pete! Down under are we?

Nice pics DuoGlide62. Would you happen to know what the stud uses to center itself inside the diameter of the frame tube? Looks like a grommet on both ends, are they screw on , or are they part of the stud itself?

They're threaded and screw on. Spacer, support stud, Part number : 52605-58

I made my own stud using two allen head bolts with a length of hex stock welded in between. The spacers could be made too but I actually found a pair at the dealer (20 years ago)

I have a 1961 Duo Glide. I don't know how to mount the lower attachment point. What are the parts that I need?
I would appreciate your help.
Regards, Mark

Sorry. I will be more specific. I have the correct rear crash bars and also the upper long double side threaded bolt for the upper attachment point. But, I can find no information or the correct parts to mount the bottom attachment point on the rear crash bar.
What are the correct parts that I need to achieve this?
Regards,
Mark.
