Shifter Drum Yellow Paint

#1

Post by nan00k »

The shifter drum has a daub of yellow paint on it, this is a servicar (with reverse) transmission. Is that factory just to allow quick identification or another reason or just something it acquired in its life time?.

The yellow paint denotes 1947 onwards.
The drum is a mirror image of the earlier one to suit the reversed gearshift pattern on the gearshift gate
It does not indicate reverse gear.

So it's the direction of shift, pull back R1N23. OK , thanks.
Another thing i've just noticed, there is a very fine slit running 2/3rds the length of the middle of the drum, i thought it was a casting mark initially , what's that all about?.
