Who's life? How much longer do we expect old Ed is going to last.
Alan Sputhe is gone, and left no viable support. Same for Phil Ross @ SuperMax Belt drives. Once the founder is gone, many companies die on the vine....

Re: Samwel v-tronic VS QuickStart 2000
One idea was to use a cheap IE kit from China. Recently they have come down to USD$20 landed. The beauty of this idea is they are so affordable, a spare pickup could be carried in the pocket. Kit is 12v and offered for a variety of older 4 and 6 cylinder cars.
Dual fire plan was to remake the rotor with a two magnets, perhaps even dissecting the supplied rotor of its' magnets. This would also ensure they were of correct strength. (Pic shows kit for VW Beetle, so its' rotor has four magnets.)
Single fire option would need just one magnet but two pickups.
I bought two kits and proceeded to test. I was disheartened when I discovered these skip the first pulse before attempting to spark. They are made for starter motor engines and don't suit kickstart. BTW, one other thing to be mindful about. The magnet rotor can attract iron dust, filings etc. Check and clean once in a while.

Re: Samwel v-tronic VS QuickStart 2000
Waking this thread up with updates.
Seen another example of accidental battery disconnection causing issues this week.
Shady on his 6v stroker Indian 741 and me on my Pan were riding to Okoroire hotel. It was perfect weather and both bikes were running well, when suddenly the Indian quit and coasted to a halt. It was quickly discovered the battery+ eye terminal had snapped off completely. Then we realized both tail lights bulbs had blown plus the headlight LED bulb was burnt out. Shady reminded me, the headlight LED was rated 6v to 24v so voltage must have exceeded 24v.!! It looks like these situations can spike voltage much higher than originally thought. The Indian has unregulated generator.
I had a subsequent thought about circuit spike protection. A man could install a Zener Diode like the type 12v Brit bikes have. It would need to be the late type from '79 when they went negative ground. Theory is these will chop the top off voltage spikes above about 13.8v?? by shorting the excess to ground.

My guess is the first pass of the pick up merely arms the circuit. Subsequent passes create spark. How does it know to skip the first pulse?

Re: Samwel v-tronic VS QuickStart 2000
I was checking out the Dynatek DS6-2 on eBay and also ran across what appear to be china knock offs, for about $50; 1/3rd the cost of the real thing.
I put the knockoff on my watch list, and within an hour received an offer from the seller for 91.84% OFF. So now I can purchase the dual pickup DS6-2 type unit, for a grand total of...$4.00 , free 4 day shipping...
What's the catch here?

That would have to be a typo. When you posted I put it on my watchlist but only got an offer this morning. $46.54, 5% off. Nothing like $4/free ship.panhead_kicker wrote: ↑Sun Aug 14, 2022 7:04 pm I was checking out the Dynatek DS6-2 on eBay and also ran across what appear to be china knock offs, for about $50; 1/3rd the cost of the real thing.

This is the later pattern DS6-2 of which I have bought 3 Dynatech branded ones over last few years.
Studying the pics in minute detail, it looks perfectly identical to the Dynatech. That's a real good copy. More likely it was made in the same factory.
Keen to hear of anyone actually running one. Unlikely I will be as I have a spare Dynatech on the shelf...

Yeah, beer was probably running cold that evening. I let the offer expire... for 4 bucks I should have hit the accept button. They were probably hoping I didn't lolExcalibur wrote: ↑Wed Aug 17, 2022 10:35 amThat would have to be a typo.
