Last naked FL without electronics

#1

Post by OneHandDuo »

Hello all,
What was the last touring model without a fairing that had No electronics, but only electrics on it?

The wive greenlighted a bike to be left in the US to go for holiday tours and I would feel more at ease with an all mechanical (and electrical) bike, whereas I hate ageing electronics.....
Any ideas? Thanks in advance.....

Any Shovelhead or Evo can be easily retrofitted with points and condenser if that is what would make you happy. Not so for Twinkies and newer. You may still find caricatured Twin Cams, but the E-iggy is pretty much there to stay unless you want to $pend a bunch of bucks to change out the cam cover, more cussed-em parts.....
But regardless of what you choose, any machine left dormant is subject to deterioration just from sitting....
You might want to look into just renting when you are over here, then you will have a fresh ride, with dealer support, for a much easier vacay Stateside....

Thanks, RooDog, for both suggestions.... When I say "no electronics", I might give an electronic ignition some thought, because that really improves peace of mind, but that is all I want to have on a bike. Ok, maybe a mobile charger.
But yeah, I ll consider your alternative carefully.... it is just that I prefer to ride on my own bike, even if that means breaking down and fixing it; and shipping my "here bike" to the US each time means I won t have it here for 2 months.....
But great, thank you....

Ah, Rubone, that is a very rational and wise remark. Now, rational and wise not being my forte as far as motorcycles are concerned, I cannot imagine to do the roadtrip of a lifetime accross the US on an airhead (even though it would make sense).
Naa, must be Milwaukee-made....
