Muffler 65242-51-B
My Parts Book says Muffler #65236-58 would be the correct one for my 62 FLHF.
But market seems to be empty.
So I was looking for some 65242-51-B instead. Many HD-remanufactured from the early 2000s are on the market. But now I found a "real" 65242-51-B....but I don't get it with that "super silent".
In my Parts Book (58-68) the 65242-67 (extra quiet) is also mentioned for my bike.
Well.... I don't want it to be extra quiet.
Is there a difference in baffles between 65242-51-B and 65242-67???

Re: Muffler 65242-51-B
Has anyone ever heard about faked mufflers? Any number experts for that?
These Numbers look different than anything I have seen so far. Numbers and HD are not centered on each other and the large number on the left usually appears only on the late 90s/2000 remakes from Harley.

Different mufflers, a close inspection of both you may see differences. Is there a difference in baffles between 65242-51-B and 65242-67???
Do you mean reproduction ?Has anyone ever heard about faked mufflers? Any number experts for that?
There are reproduction mufflers, at least one is an exact duplicate of original
65242-51-B was available for 50 years, my guess is original from Harley. These Numbers look different than anything I have seen so far. Numbers and HD are not centered on each other and the large number on the left usually appears only on the late 90s/2000 remakes from Harley.

Fire that money cannon one more time. If this is the way you have to build an authentic bike in 2022, then I guess it’s become “A rich man’s sport” like Throughbred horse racing, Bonneville, or Crypto?
My repop -51 muffler cost me $35. US at the AMCA swap meet 7 or 8 years ago, and 99% of people think it’s original. I suppose this is where $50,000 Panheads and $100,000 Knuckles are created.
Make no mistake, once that “used” muffler sells for a grand, you will never see one for less on E-bay!
My opinion only

That is why Mach IV Motors takes a complete running motorcycle, breaks it down, and sells it off in pieces.

Re: Muffler 65242-51-B
Sorry, but this guy is an idiot and everyone buying from him is too.
We even have guys here in Germany that are selling early 2000s HD Repop Mufflers with reference to his auctions and asking 550$ thinking they are cheap. These prices would be ok if someone pulled out a NOS from the 50s in that condition maybe.
At least the last offer he is so fair to show the box with the 2004 manufacturing date on it.
Let's come back to the question 65236 vs 65242 regarding noise. Are the 65242 substantially less noisy? Difference between the -50 and - 67?

Yes, the side exit exhaust muffler 65242-67 of course looks different, and they are indeed very quiet.DeltaElite wrote: ↑Sun Jul 03, 2022 2:05 pm ... Are the 65242 substantially less noisy? Difference between the -50 and - 67?
I run these on my 69 FLH, turned down. (No gravel roads around here)

Re: Muffler 65242-51-B
If memory serves, there were different versions of that side exit muffler. I have those on a ‘68 FLH and I would describe the sound as a muffled but nice throaty tone. Maybe Robbie will reply with the definitive word.
