Re: Motor problems WL
Hi RooDog,
thanks for reply. I try to find some good gears. Did I already ask, what is the first choice for sealing the crankcase, Dirko HT?

Re: Motor problems WL
Are you asking about sealing the two case halves together? If so . most any semi-hard sealing product will do. I like Yamabond for that application, and use it sparingly as this is a close machined fit. Just don't use a soft silicone sealer.

Re: Motor problems WL
Yes, for the two case. noted
Next question, tappet guides: I have two sets, some with holes for better lubrication, some not. My new crank case is from 43 without this drillings.

I too am interested in hearing the pros and cons on drilling the oil passage from tappet blocks to the flywheel cavity. Why is it there, how is it supposed to work, and does it really work?

Re: Motor problems WL
I've read that it (supposedly) uses crankcase vacuum to remove oil from the valve covers.
It's probably useful because:
1. the factory never spends money unless it's necessary
2. it's present in the latest engine with that oil system, and never recalled TIKO
3. no reports of problems, including from mix-n-match parts

Re: Motor problems WL
Ah ok, the drillings are not for extra lubrication, the oil can drain to crankcase.
Probably it make sense to drill some holes into my new crankcase.

Re: Motor problems WL
Thanks for the info. As I have run into excess oil in the covers on my BTSV's, It makes sense.

Re: Motor problems WL
The cam with the blind hole is an early one piece cam/shaft. Most cams are 2piece with a separate shaft. Your cam has a hollow center with a plug pressed in one end so the crankcase won't breathe through the hollow shaft into the cam chest.
I've not seen this documented anywhere, just my own personal observation and deduction.

Re: Motor problems WL
Ok, thank you. I was not sure if there should be a small drilling for lubrication or not.
Another question. I have a Linkert M54, is this carb a good choice for driving on highways or is the M54 better for low revs?
The motor has 6:1 heads and 30 teeths sprocket.

Re: Motor problems WL
The M54 was the last version of the 1-1/4 inch Linkerts. If equipped with the 1-1/16 venturi and configured like the M51 it will be fine for highway use.

Re: Motor problems WL
Rubone, thank you. Configured like M51 means, ventury 1 1/16, jet #11 replaced with plug.
Anything else to replace?
