1949 WL - Clutch Adjustment Nut Question

#1

Post by 1962300 »

Hello,

I am attaching a picture of my Clutch Adjusting Nuts in the position that allows the bike to go down the road & shift fine.
My question is.....does this look right at all?
I ask as I would think the nuts should reveal at least 1 thread of the studs; though they do not.

Thanks

Many things can affect the position of the spring plate, thickness of clutch plates, length of clutch springs, etc. Are the pieces all H-D or aftermarket? Is the spring pack properly spaced at 31/32"? If all is OK parts wise if that is where it wants to be and it functions alright then leave it like that. The only drawback could be a greater chance of stripping the threads out of the nuts.

In addition to what Robbie said, are there more than the usual number of disks in the clutch pack? From Palmer, the '41 - '73 clutch mechanism consists of the clutch sprocket/drum, two lined friction plates, friction lined spring plate, two clutch steel discs, a clutch release disc, and a pressure plate.
