S&S 2700 Series pistons
My '68 shovel motor came to me with .030" over S&S 2700 series pistons. S&S says they were cast stroker pistons (and discontinued). I measured the stroke of this motor to be 4-1/2". Just found a pair of .040" over S&S 2700 series pistons on ebay, which I bought for $99. I'm hoping these will work for 4-1/2" stroke (and hoping I don't need to have the cylinders cut more than .010" - I haven't measured a profile of my bores yet).

I looked at the one negative feedback the seller had and found it amusing. LOL....

complain
I looked at that, too. For ten bucks for an oil tank, the buyer really shouldn't be complaining about anything.

Back in the day I used many sets of 2700 series pistons in 4 1/2 stroke Shovels and 1 Pan, loved them for a street bike and a bike we raced for years as a bracket racer, if i remember not a lot of compression but perfect for todays gas, I set them up at 1.5 thousands.

Thanks. Good to hear. I'm not looking for a lot of compression. In fact I'd be happy with somewhere between 8:1 and 8.5:1. I know that since the motor is stroked there's more swept volume so the CR is raised some.pan620 wrote: ↑Sat Feb 26, 2022 2:26 pm Back in the day I used many sets of 2700 series pistons in 4 1/2 stroke Shovels and 1 Pan, loved them for a street bike and a bike we raced for years as a bracket racer, if i remember not a lot of compression but perfect for todays gas, I set them up at 1.5 thousands.
Which brings up a question I've had for a long time: can anyone give me a ballpark number for panhead or shovelhead combustion chamber volume? I know piston dome height and other factors go into this, but even an order of magnitude number can be helpful to calculate ballpark stroker CR. I know I can buy a burette and a plexiglass or Lucite plate, etc., and cc the heads, but I don't feel like going through that since in the end, when the motor's built, the CR is what it is. I'm not racing.
