Overhead valve WL

#1

Post by 1950Panhead »

There was a guy who posted on caimag that owned a factory experimental overhead valve WL.
Here is another one on Mecum - https://www.mecum.com/lots/LV0122-48983 ... erimental/
Don't know how many the factory built or survive.

For H-D not until the XR750 and then Evos. The Brits used them from the '30s.

I know that engines made entirely out of aluminum were used before the turn of the century, also the Wright Bros` one
My first guess reg "ready-for-the-public-engines" is JAP-engines or Brough but Google shows me Amazon results only :?
Wishing for a time-machine so to lurk over the shoulder of these maniac mechanics ....

A couple of those OHV WL type engines have surfaced over the years the aluminum one and a cast iron one. Neither was ever a complete bike, that part was done by later owners. Herbert Wagner touches on the subject in his books. One of them used to be in Canada. H-d decided against them since production cost was nearly that of the 61 OHV and at the time they were getting ready to release the 74 OHV and didn't want too many bikes at too close a price.
