Hand shift Lid with Neutral switch?

#1

Post by Frankenstein »

Greetings, was checking out a Buddy's bike the other day, and noticed for the first time that the Hand shift lid had a neutral indicator switch on it. The switch is one I'm not familiar with, in that it has 2 wire terminals on it.
Any clues as to what year this might have been made and what it was used on? My guess would be the later hand shift setup without tank gate? It's a 4 speed drum, by the way. The bike itself is no clue, it's a bobber mongrel, parts from all years.
Thanks,
DD

J&P sells hand-shift jockey tops, either with or without a neutral switch, as shown in my 2015 Vintage Parts catalog. J&P part number (with switch) is 620-023. This is probably a VTwin part.

The neutral switch on a hand shift was introduced for the '65 model year coinciding with the new electric start. It act as a a safety lockout to prevent starting in gear. It was used from '65-'79 on all handshift models.
