Sealing studs on transmission case

#1

Post by Cooie65 »

I am rebuilding my 4 speed transmission and I have removed the mounting studs from the case.
My question is - will locktite stud lock, seal the threads against potential oil leaks?
I read on the knowledge base that it was suggested to put a smear of gasket seal over the studs inside the case, any suggestions are appreciated.

Good clean threads and locktite should seal the studs but after I did that I smeared some sealer on the stud holes inside the case. You might even coat the inside with gyptol because the early cases were sometimes porus. If you do, then the case should be baked to get the oil out. The knowledge base talks about prepping cases for gyptol.

Thanks for the info andygears, I have run a tap through the threads and used studlock.
Hopefully all will be well.
