Wondering if I can update my 59 transmission with the lose main drive bearing to the caged bearing.I don't have any of the new stuff to measure but I have to put a new race in.

The 1977 bearing modification was not an improvement, but a cost analysis decision.

I usually bore the case bigger to install the OLD STYLE MDG race on L'77 & up cases (with the old style gear). The loose rollers can handle more stress than the caged Torrington bearing and be set to closer clearances.
