Kicker arm broke.

#1

Post by bangkokbob »

Hi all. Well today I was 50 miles from home and went to start the 63 and the kicker pedal broke off.
Can these be welded? I think may be not.
Is there as suitable replacement that will last and looke right?
Thanks for looking.
Regards B.B.

You should be able to weld it if it is steel.Looks like it has been cracked for some time...

The correct arm is a -54 part number, and should be black.

Same thing happened to me a few years ago. Luckily, the bike started when I kicked it over and broke the arm. I took the arm to a good welder in town and he said he wouldn't trust the welded arm. As 1950 Panhead said, buy a new arm.

I had an original kicker that broke in that narrow spot just like yours. By grinding a prep angle into both halfs and very carefully tacking to set it at the right angle, then built up under the boss for the pedal bolt, my excellent TIG guy welded mine up. Done correctly mine lasted for about 3 years till I sold the bike. It didn't look bad, hardly noticeable. If you buff it up nice after the welding and spray it with clear enamel, it will hold you over till you find a replacement.

I do agree that once they break and bust out the pivot bolt hole, they're done.

My two cents
