Hi my transmission shaft hub key or key way slot will not hold the key it is very loose I was told just to glue it in there with some thing so it does not fall out and once every thing is back together it wont matter can some one please tell me if this is correct.

The key is an alignment and initial holder for the hub until it is fully tightened at which time the taper in the hub and shaft hold it all together. Once fully tightened the key is captive, but is also doing nothing if all else is right. Your shaft looks like it does not make good contact with the hub (discolored spots, etc), and that nut/seal looks terrible. What's up with it? You should lap that hub to shaft before assembly. And it must be perfectly clean to tighten right.
