Clutch Hub 41-64 & 65-up

first I'm going to leave the 3-stud vs: 5-stud portion of the argument completely alone.

Using my reprint 58-68 Parts Book it shows 2 part numbers for Clutch Hub. 37550-41A for 41-64 and 37550-41B for 65 and up does anyone know the main difference in the 2 part numbers?
(in my 49-57 book the number has no suffix at all)
I have a 65 Electra Glide I've owned, ridden and wrenched on since 1973. I have an orphaned topic in projects where I'm rebuilding the engine. When I tore the bike down & cleaned the inner primary, the bearing was half-way out of the housing. I bought a new sealed bearing, and pressed it into the housing using a green retaining compound. I let it sit in the press, under light pressure for over 24 hours.
When I went to install the hub, it hit the bearing before it seated on the taper. This is the same hub that has been in the bike since I bought it.
Anyway I gathered all the hubs I own and all but one have a neck about 1/4" long on the back of the hub.
I looked through all the Knowledge Base, and only saw where the 65 & later hub was not compatible with a Super Nut on the MDG. Is this 1/4" neck the reason?
I put the primary together with the one 'flat-back' hub I have. It does not touch the bearing.
I run a 'wet' primary, so I put in a sealed bearing, but pull the inside seal so it will lube with primary oil.
I think I've answered my own question, but could use some confirmation.

Yes, the flat back hub was for electric start models and was designed to clear the inner primary bearing.
