Sorry for the late response but I don't check this site that often. You would need to call and speak with him about how he does it.
He was going on about all sorts of things as we were there to get a set of his ULH cylinders and my friend (a great mechanic and former fuel drag racer himself) had about 20 million questions. He also makes his own cams and heat treats them there in his shop to more that double the thickness than what the others do. He was a trained and certified metallurgist and marine mechanic before he left South Africa to move to the US. He is a very interesting guy and will try anything.
