Correct 51 cam cover(s)

Post by panhead_kicker »

From what I've read and seen , 51s should have 8 rib cam cover. Early has the diagonal oil passage visible, later does not . Is this correct? If so, any ideas in Vin where swithover may have occurrd? Going to look at a 51 today.

48-50 eight rib, die cast, you can see the cam oil feed from outside
51-53 eight rib, sand cast, cannot see cam feed.
Late 53 have four rib by 53FL5300

Thanks Jerry,
The "51" I looked at today had the diagonal oil feed. Wrong for the motor apparently, and it was chrome. Many of the original parts were on hand, but not on the roller. Neck had been boogered with too. Darn, for the money.
Thanks

Early 51s have the cam cover with the diagonal rib. Later 51s thru late 52 have the plain rib
cover.
