replacing cam original cam had green gear new cam has white gear the pinion gear is not marked but measures to red/brown the difference between my green gear and my pinion gear is greater then the white gear but by the book is still too small for the white can gear. my gear case never whined or made noise to begin with. will this be a problem?

hi, are these andrew cams? if it is, make are referance mark at the key way ,remove both gears, put you old gear on the new cam,by the marks to keyway, they make a wayme jamme tool for this,or send it to andrews. i've done a bunch by the key way mark methed, never had a prob. but only on andrews cams. i beleave that stock press on gears are the same side bore size as andrews ? then you should be the same match as before.hope this helps,or makes things worse....with respect....JR

If you do not have a noise issue then you really dont have a problem.HD says that ideally you should have a slight gear whine when cold and no noise at all when hot.The cam and pinion gear color codes do not always match but if the cam\pinion gear fitment is correct(no noise) it doesnt matter.A too tight fit makes a whining noise.A too loose fit generally sounds like a ticky front exhaust pushrod(in single cam engines).HTH
