Quick question, can I run lifter blocks/lifters/solids from my 1972 Shovelhead on my 1951 Pan/shovel?
Thank You in advance.

Yes.If your 72 blocks are original they should even use the same 1\4x24 TPI countersunk screws that the panhead uses.If your lifter blocks are aftermarket be sure you have the correct screws. Most aftermarket blocks use a socket head capscrew(allen) that is available in both thread pitches-20 and 24 TPI.

steinauge... If you run them do you not have to block off the oil return hole for the hydraulic units since 51 motors are not not set up that way

No. your 51 right case doesnt have the feed passages for the later style lifters so there is no issue there.I have a 49 with later lifter blocks that dont have the holes plugged.Been that way some years now,no problems.

I have never found cause to block holes ever.
(Except those funky early '80s where the cylinders drained into them!)

cotton, so you say you don't plug the tappit blocks, but how about the guy removes the hdy. units, and replacing them with the solids conversion? won' they pump up,no where for the oil to go? or will the oil presuure push the conversion tappit up, putting valves into piston? never played with them, just a crazy ouestion. with respect jr

A "solids conversion" can be dropped in with no regard for the oil galleries at all.
There is nothing to pump up in a solid, and there is no reason to remove the primary source of oil to the tappet itself. Relying upon splash from the bottom and drainage from above is not all you might like it to be.
It is best not to juggle with the motor's balance of oiling,
and you may wish to return to hydraulics some day.

THANKS COTTON, I HAVE A B GRIND CAM, THEY WANT TO RUN SOLIDS WITH, I HAVE HYD TAPPITS IN MY 59,AND I HAVE THAT COVERSION KIT TO MAKE IT A SOLID, NOT GOING TO USE THE SPRING, MY CONCERN WAS THAT IF OIL IS STILL GOING TO THE TAPPIT,MADE FOR HYD.,FILLING THE VOID UNDER THE CONVERSION,MAKING IT LIFT,OR MAKE VALVES RUN TIGHT? NEVER PLAYED WITH THIS STUFF BEFORE. THANKS FOR YOUR RESPONCE WITH RESPECT JR
