Ok so I got my stock flywheel thrust washer in to day wait.... Let me back up first. With flywheels all put together. I measure .035 inch of connecting rod side play. So the manual states that .006 to .010 is spec. I'm looking at .008 for the happy medium. So I need 2 washers that are .068. CAN'T FIND ANY THING OVER .060!!! So my question is has anyone come across this problem and what did you do. Or do they make washers and I can't find them or shims. Please HELP!!! Desperate Hoosier.

The most common fix is to try to use a slightly shorter crankpin. Originals are pretty consistent but aftermarket are all over the place in length. It seems that aftermarket manufacturers tried to compensate for worn tapers with longer pins. The problem is that not all tapers are worn.... You can also lap the tapers to your wheels for some gain.

That's an awful lot of side play, where did the forked (rear) rod originate and what is it's width? I have a stock set I can measure if someone else doesn't pop up with the size.

Please take another look at your measurements and math. I just did a quick overview and it does not appear correct to me, but I may have erred.
You state that you have .035 total rod side-play. your target is .008. So, .035 -.008 = .027 You will have 2 washers, one on each side of the rod so .027 divided by 2 =.0135

You stated that you needed two washers .068, .068 x 2 =.136 and according to my figures you need washers that are .0135

I hope this helps

The washers are stock .055. I can't find a shim washer that .0135. that is why I asked if they make .068 washer Are the numbers on the flywheels correct? Thanks for all the help guys. Hoosier Pan.

Ok, nice pictures. The crankpin is used, miked ok? Was it assembled with those wheels previously? Why not do a bearing wipe of the tapers? Remove the key, coat the taper with a VERY thin coat of bearing blue, which is thin artist oil paint or just use magic marker to evenly coat the tapers. Then insert into the flywheel and turn about a quarter turn, look at the pattern. Could a 3-corner scraper touch up the taper? Maybe polish the crankpin in a lathe? If you can make the tapers match better and seat deeper, your clearance will close up.

My two cents

Just to be clear I did not measure to total length of the crank pin. The picture is taper to taper. The flywheels where together when I got this basket case. When I took things apart a lot of things where put together wrong.

Your rod and crankpin are the correct size.
I see dirt or a flaw on your crankpin, remove the key and use #240 wet dry on both ends of the pin and inside the tapers for 20 seconds each then wipe with a clean rag.
If you see color variation or flaws like I see, see if #240 will remove the flaws.
This is the third time I have asked what torque you used, there is a reason for that, the flywheel compress as the torque goes up, 160# will have a narrow gap then 50#.
If your crankpin has flaws in the taper replace it.

I torqued at 100 ftlb to true them then to 170ftlb for final torque. I think I'm going to replace the crank pin.
