'54 crankcase rollers

#1

Post by jlaley »

I replaced the crankcase races in my '54 and had them line honed. I figured what I needed for roller diameters and ordered them from V-twin. Well they came the other day and I just went to see how they fit. The rollers for both sides are to long. The rt. sides are .600" long compared to the .500" ones I took out. The lefts are .500" from V-twin to replace ones that are .365" long. Am I missing something here? The V-twin numbers are 10-0309 for the rights and 10-0302 for the lefts. These are both .0004 O/S. I need help. Thanks, Jim

OK, I see where the service manual states replacing the stock pinion bearing assy. with the improved one which is two sets of short rollers, which I have, I figured out. The left sides are correct so ignore my first post. So now my question is what rollers do I order for these improved short bearings? Are they what they started putting in stock in '55? V-twin doesn't state lengths. Thanks, Jim

Here is an ongoing bearing cross-reference that I have, for the older stuff:

Maybe this will help. There are some roller retainers listed, too.

Thanks Jack, I'll look this over.
