INSPECTION hole broken (panhead)

#1

Post by vain »

hello.

I have a problem...
My timing plug hole (the aluminum that sticks out) broke of when i was about to put in my timing hole plug.

Now i need some good advice on how to plug this hole.. anyone ever experienced this problem before??

what should i do?? after 3 years of building and about to start it up, this happened. i cant afford to send it away so i need to come up with a workable solution.

thanks for all help....

Has a piece of your case broken off or are the threads of the aluminum case stripped so that the steel timing hole plug falls out.

If the threads are gone, the cheap and fast fix is to get an expanding rubber plug . They have a nut/bolt/washers combination so when you tighten it it expands to seal the hole. The long term fix is to get a kit with a tap to re-thread the hole and an over sized plug. But that should be done with the cases dissembled.

Give us a bit more details

Hello King;)

Parts of the case, just where the plug goes in. fell of when i tried to tighten it.

Guess i will have to remove the remaining case pieces around the hole, and make a sort of "case" and thread it to put in the plug. ??

any ideas? there isn't much threads left in the case.

thx

I'd get a rubber stopper and put a bolt though it to make a 'freeze plug',...until you can split the cases to do it right.

Hei Vain

The stopper Cotten and I described worked for me. After years of wrapping the plug with teflon tape to get it to hold it fell out (on a club ride!! ). I went down to the hardware store and bought an expanding rubber plug shaved it to fit, tightened it up, and rode for another 2000 miles until I did my rebuild. Hope it works for you.

Ha de bra
