Get rid of the oil filter?

#1

Post by morganh »

Alright, some jack leg mechanic was putting up sweep fish tails on my 64 pan and had to take the oil filter off and route oil lines directly to the pump. Am I not in future trouble with no oil filter?

I'd say that running without a filter is not doing what best for you motor in the long run. I'd put it back on there at my earliest opportunity.

If you are like many modern enthusiasts, oil changes come quite frequently, perhaps every couple of thousand miles (or less!). Filters are of most benefit to those who plan extended duty and heavy service for their machines.

Filters are a feeble substitute for a good turkeybaster and brush solvent-flush of the oiltank with each oil change.
