Re: Does anyone run Valvoline 60 weight?
I ran valvoline 60w racing oil in the desert states. I use 20/50 in the colder places. Strangely, prices vary, I paid between $5.39 and $3.59 for the 60w at different Autozones.

Same as mbskeam... 50W in the winter, 60W in the summer. I've also run Kendall but that is hard to find around here.

I did a search for 60 weight oil. And I found myself from over two years ago. I just looked all over waco for Valvoline 60 weight. No luck. Am running Valvoline 50 weight now on new engine rebuild. Going to indie tomorrow. May luck out and find Harley 60 wt.? Summer and hot Texas temps coming on. Need that heavier weight oil.

My local HD dealer still stocks 60w and 50w, perhaps your local does too. I am sure your Indie can get it for you.

Re: Does anyone run Valvoline 60 weight?
I run 60wt. all the time, also i live in N.J.---never had trouble with overheating,even waiting for a bridge 15minits idle 90degree day. I tried -20w50 & st.50 racing oil, both gave me problems on hot days. Every 3 years we seem to get a month of humid & 100+ degree days, I change to straight 70, no problems!. Also alot of factors play in to this/ cams/comp.-ratios/ timing/ final-drive-ratio/etc. remember heat makes H.P. to much heat/overheating!. So it depends on what your running.--Also I run st.60 in my sportster, w/no problems/& that bike runs mid 11s in the quater!-(no juice) A friend of mine moved to arizona for awhile he had to run st.80wt. he told me the temps. in midday on road-surface would reach 128 degrees! He saw tires blow from that kind of heat!. They actualy make st.105wt. oil for the desert riders,at extreme temps.

Harley 105 is 60 wt. It was graded differently than modern oils. Their 75 is 40wt.They actualy make st.105wt. oil

Re: Does anyone run Valvoline 60 weight?
? for Rubone---on the 105wt. oil how do you know the gradings were different? I know when grading oil there is a controled envirement, humidity,etc. then oil is run through a standard orifice under a certain pressure, for a certain amount of time!. That is the way its been done since the standard act of weights & measurements, back in the (1940s-not sure of the year but it was early & still in use today-everyday.) If you other info please let us know as this would change a world of things!!! Very Important, Thank-You in advance(Keep it upright----58flh)

Re: Does anyone run Valvoline 60 weight?
58FLH,
You partially answered your own question. H-D oil was graded in a system used in the early part of the last century and DID NOT change their system to match SAE standards. It has been discussed on here before but the equivalents were drilled into me at an early age working in bike shops and for dealerships. I do not know the specific term for their system but it was not a standard viscosity test. Their weights are approximately;
58= 20wt
75= 40wt
105= 60wt
They continued to use their own system of labeling into the '80s. By the late '70s they were putting both markings on the cans.

Re: Does anyone run Valvoline 60 weight?
Robbie---thanks for the info & pics. this does answer a few ?s i had, it makes more sense now----- About todays oils ,do you think its still the same H.D. grading system in effect? because when i open a jug of st60wt. & then open a jug of 90wt. for tranny--theres alot of difference in viscosity, the 60 could be water compared to the 90 which is like molasses! thanks for the info ,& tell me what you think! Keep her up stay-safe---58flh
