Oil Pump Question

#1

Post by panz4ever »

Was reading that someone suggested by using a 73 and up oil pump drive gear and pinion worm gear in your stock oil pump you can get a 25% volume increase. Question #1 - good or bad advice? Question #2 - if this is so does it apply to the old cast pumps or to just the later style aluminum pumps.

When My Pan Head was being rebuilt the Fella rebuilding the lower end called me and ask me If i wanted the higher volume oil pump gear installed on the S & S oil pump...he told me the added benefits as more pressure at Idle and i said yes.....i have great oil pressure at idle now...so if thats possible for you to Upgrade that oil pump....i sure would.

Pressure is highly over rated.

That's why there is a by-pass valve;
Turning it faster just means it stays open longer.
