Strange Oil Leak

#1

Post by Eric S »

My newly rebuilt engine has a very strange leak. On the front of the rear cylinder above the {R} mark where the cylinder has has no fins is staying wet with oil. I checked above at the head gasket surface which is dry.Valve cover and pushrod tubes are dry and also removed the head bolt at the intake area and re-installed with some sealer on the washers but it appeared to be dry also. Compression is 125 and 120. No leaks on front half of engine so no oil is drafting back. The cylinders are V-Twin Motor shop. Heads are New STD? with stock ports. Any ideas????? Thanks in advance E

Check for a porosity in the casting.Clean the spot down to the metal, run the engine and see where the oil comes out.If it appears that oil is coming through the casting clean the area with lacquer thinner and apply JB weld.Sacrifice to whatever gods you believe in for the cylinder not to crack around the base. Good luck.
