Valve Collars Stricking Rocker Covers.

Hi All:- Problem I have looks quite common from all the early panhead rocker tin covers I have inspected. Most show indents from the valve collars interferring with the rocker covers. Usually the intake side and some covers are bashed out to eleviate this problem. My valve height is correct but there is evedence they will srike the cover in some locations. Has anyone ever tried the new Twin Cam tapered valve springs and smaller collars as that is what would be a good fix. The TC valve spring pressure is close to the panhead spring pressures so I wonder if any one has tried TC springs and collars on a fifties pan motor??....Joe

Closed height on the late twinkie spring is 1.850 ,pan is 1.375 using the FLH type spring. Also late twinkie uses a .275 valve stem pan is about .375.IME most upper retainer to pan interference problems are caused by excessive stem protrusion\installed height. If seats are good and stem protrusion within wear limit you should have clearance.I have noted that some aftermarket aluminum retainers are bulky enough to hit.HTH
