Shovelhead & Panhead cylinders
Anyone ever put a shovel cylinder and head opposite of a panhead cylinder and head?if this was possible would you have to run separate carbs or could a manifold be made?any ideas just wondering?

Re: Shovelhead & Panhead cylinders
hello,
yes it has been done by Indian Larry.
he used STD heads.
The panhead had the shovel style intake/exhaust ports, but it was running dual carbs on that one, I think he also did a single carb one also. so you could just put on the shovel intake.
but you would need a custom ground cam as the rocker arm ratios are not the same from pan to shovel.

Re: Shovelhead & Panhead cylinders
Back in the early 80's there was a guy who built a knuck/pan/shovel motor for a chopper that was featured in one of the chopper rags of the day. It had a shovel bottom end, panhead rear cylinder, and knucklehead front cylinder.
Last April at the River Run in Laughlin, NV there he was with the bike on display. Looked like it had been in storage for 20 years but he had a copy of the magazine that featured the bike. Very interesting ride to look at.

where can I see a picture or article on one of these any guess?I have a original parts dont know if there is a manifold for it .but i see the cam would have to be custom everything is already one of a kind .thanks
Re: Shovelhead & Panhead cylinders
Jim Leineweber could grind a shovel cam to 1/2 pan & 1/2 shov. easily. Only modify 2 lobes.

Re: Shovelhead & Panhead cylinders
Just curious why you would want to do this. Just for the novelty, or is there a practical reason?
