On a warm day, after my '62 idles more than about 2 minutes, the rear exaust lifter starts to tap. Replacing the hydraulic unit doesn't help. When I accelerate, the ticking then goes away. Where should I look to a fix?

Perhaps the lifter tollerances are a bit loose in the lifter bore. Or any place that pressure is lost could contribute to lifters not staying pumped up at low RPM. Do you have an "A" cam? Cotton was saying they are known for not keeping lifters full. Let us know what you find, Mike

what are you running for oil?
perhaps a straight weight would help until you take it apart to find the problem.
