Cylinder paint.
What's the best paint and primer for iron cylinders. Worried about rust. First time poster long time listener.

Re: Cylinder paint.
Painting cylinders with Harley high heat is fine if you don't ever use solvents to clean off any oil or gas residue. If you use brake kleen or a solvent it will melt off the paint. You won't be happy.
Take your perfectly clean blasted cylinders and primer them with U-Pol Zinc weld through primer.
After it dries paint them generously with Krylon High Heat & radiator paint, aluminum. Bake for half hour at 200 degrees. Cylinders come out nice, the color is right and you can clean them without worry, plus the temp is good to 1,200 degrees.
I've also painted exhaust pipes and the oil pump body the same way.
Cheers,
Jim

back in the late 80's when my cylinders were painted,my machinist painted them a paint called pioneer, not sure if its still available.they still look good 30 years later
Re: Cylinder paint.
I've had good luck over the years using H-D high heat silver, but I don't clean the motor with solvent...

Re: Cylinder paint.
How much of the harley paint do you use to do the cylinders and lifter blocks? I have 2 1/4 pint cans do you think that will cover it?
Re: Cylinder paint.
It's been a while, but IIRC, it was less than half a spray can for barrels and guides. Warm the parts prior to painting, and put them in the sun to dry.
