NEW COLONY Push-rods!-3600,miles
Here are some pics. of what COLONY pushrods do!---Both rods in pic. were Ex.,-Fr. & rear. you can see by the rod on the right -the ADJ. are olny pressed-in a 1/2-inch!-(this is where most of the beatings are given!-Came off a stock 74 Pan with My old FLH cam as a lender to a down on his luck Brother!-Lifters are solid & these p-rods have 3664,miles on them!--The intakes were in NEW cond. -(I guess because the not so severe angle as the Ex.).-Anyway these ADJ. will go into some steel ones I will make-up for him!--ENJOY!---RICHIE

Re: NEW COLONY Push-rods!-3600,miles
I run what I assume are colony aluminum non adjustable push rods with adjustable perches that slide into stock lifters. They seem to be doing fine but I plan on changing them out this winter based on what I’ve read on this site. It appears to me (I’m often wrong, a result of my mouth being open too much I guess) that the contact area of what is pictured a good bit smaller than my set up. Why is that? The balls on the end of my push rods fit the cups on the perches nicely. Do those do the same? What do those ride on? S&S doesn’t offer steel adjustable rods for a Pan, why not? And yes I do rely on the savvy around here to keep my mess running. So far so good

I think S&S does indeed offer steel adjustable pushrods for '53-'65 panheads with hydraulic lifters.Huck wrote:... S&S doesn’t offer steel adjustable rods for a Pan, why not?
Aren't these correct for that application?

HUCK!---The lifters in the motor were at one time HYD.--They have been gutted & a solid perch if you want to call it , put in for the ADJ.-Colonys!--Its the common HYD. conversion-kit you see in the catalogs!--Thats why your bottoms are much rounder, they look like the tops that sit in the rockerarms.--Try calling S&S, cause Im sure I put in ADJ. steel S&S p-rods on a motor,(pan/shovel)-it was.----RICHIE (I just saw your other post!) & YES those are the ones!--matter of fact the bottom threaded-part in the pic. thread right in to complete the fully ADJ.-set-up!--So if you have a few busted ones ,there you go.

ROBBIE!---A few of us complained about those P-rods way back,& They still havent changed a thing!--We talked on the PHONE then, nobody had a computer ,---A buddy of mine made his own ADJ. & sent it up the tube a inch & a half!-(THEY WORKED)!--installed on pan with FLH cam.--Richie

Re: NEW COLONY Push-rods!-3600,miles
Richie!
When did these soft pushrods appear?
I have installed many in the Nineties, and ran them myself,
with the only concern that they must be adjusted rather tight to accomodate the different expansion with heat.
If they were set loose, hammering could easily produce damage.
Was there a mainenance adjustment within that 3600 miles?

Re: NEW COLONY Push-rods!-3600,miles
I called S&S they offer non adjustable steel rods with adjustable perches. I stated I'd like to have adjustable steel rods with solid perches, he stated that they were not offered and they're isn't enough room on a pan rods for an adjuster? I remain befuddled.

Huck,
You seem to be confusing yourself. I see both types of pushrods offered by S&S. The listing bigincher showed which is for replacement of pushrods using hydraulic lifters (or a solid adapter) or complete kits with adjustable units that replace the hydraulic and a solid pushrod. They even offer a pushrod that works with stock H-D solids.
What exactly are you trying to do, as that is all the normal configurations?
Robbie

Re: NEW COLONY Push-rods!-3600,miles
I have a new set of Harley lifters, I’d like to keep them.
I’d like to have steel adjustable push rods with solid perches to slide into the stock lifters. The 93-5058 is the closest I see, but its non-adjustable steel with adjustable perches <PITA
Are you sure you’re not looking at the sets for the stroker motors?
I saw bigs post and appreciate the input but are they steel? and where’s the rest if it?
I did call S&S the priority seemed to be getting me off the phone.

Huck, YES the pushrods are steel.
The S&S website can be a little clunky to manuever, but is what you're looking for on this page..?
http://www.sscycle.com/product/Vintage- ... rods-c919/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
If I understand you correctly, is this the setup you're looking for? S&S SKU# 93-5084.
http://www.sscycle.com/product/Vintage- ... 23544.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Adjustable tappets or adjustable pushrods, hardly much difference. The adjustable tappets were stock from '48-'52, so these are very much like the early style pushrods.

Nope, shovelhead. Different size ends at the rocker arms.
