Casting data codes

#1

Post by milwaukee »

Beuh !
i would like to exactly know what means the casting data-codes on the 45' cylinders !
( yeah : ya can see : i don't know ALL !!!)
you can read a letter + two differents numbers .
urgh ! i have read and re-read dozen times the Palmer's books and did not found the answer ! now : my eyes are out ! ( i will ask him about BIGGEST letters , for the next issue )
so , guys : when you read :
[A 15-4] : what does it means ?
a good friend told me " 15 is the 15th week and 4 is for 1944 "
okay ! but what about the letter ????

Fran-6, I always thought the date codes meant
A=January B=February C=March & so on, then the next number was the date of that month.
Finally was the year. IMHO ;D

Hi Francis, nice to see another bloody 'frog' on this forum, you're doing a beautiful job with your frame, keep on. A meeting is organized in Jars (cher) the 26th June with bikes to '69 only, I plan to go there with my 58 duo, may be you'll be there ?

Billy :
what you said sounds very logic to me .
but : i am curious about it : does it anybody here who can drive me to a book where i could check this ?
i think it is strange that these guys , working at the foundries manufacture were obliged to CHANGE something on the cylinder's cast EVERY DAY of each month ???
this sound like "too-much" for me.
but , Billy ; maybe you are right ....

Dirtydistrict :
thanks a lot for your nice words about my job , but sorry i will not be there on the 26th.
don't hesitate to come taste an iced one if your wheels drives you in Provence !

Fran-6 ;D

....and this is good for you too , Billy

Francis; I read a paper about you on Moto mag, the day I'll have the money for, I will order an hydra frame made by milwaukee belle. About the iced one, i'm ready too if you come around Paris, this is, of course, the same for any member of this board. Cheers.

Fran-6, You make good sense. I find it hard to think they changed the date code "EVERY DAY" ??
But we need some evidence. ???
Where's Jerry when we need him. ;D ;D

???...i think i have some more info about the wrong way :
per example : 1944 Cylinders , stamped from A to L .( i have them )
okay , i thought : A for january and L for december : this is logic.
but what about the one casted M Eric owns ?????
i did not knew they yet have the 13th month in 1944 !?
.....so : the letter CANNOT be the month .

any comment ?

Fran-6, did you get the mail I sent you on topic,
"cylinder date codes"???
Maybe this has a little light for you ?? I'm trying..
I asked my Momma about 1944 she was born in 1924.
She said, No 13th month in 1944 [kidding]
This is a puzzle....
