49-59 they used the cowbells. In 60 they went to the aluminum nacelle. Not sure about the stainless vs aluminum. Oh...and the seams are to be facing the rear and not the front.

Actually the cowbells continued right on up, they are the same on nacelle bikes. Not sure on finish changes although lots of the black painted ones ended up being chromed later in their lives!49-59 they used the cowbells.

The modern-day cowbells are still the same, too, except for the diameter of the fork tube. You can use brand new ones, if you Dremmel out the inside diameter just a hair.

The thingy that's attached to the bottom of each side of the triple tree that the front fork lower legs go up and down in. Strictly decretive.

Ah C'mon Bob...! It's more than decoration, isn't it? Doesn't it help keep dirt out of the fork slider seal..?Robert Luland wrote:The thingy that’s attached to the bottom of each side of the triple tree that the front fork lower legs go up and down in. Strictly decretive.

Oh, you mean "cowbell"...! It's an herb that grows wild, or sometimes cultivated, and very prevelant in Humboldt County, California. It's use will cure many things, including fever..!
