Hydra-Glide damper valve assembly

#1

Post by 67FLH »

Can anyone point me to a break down of the damper valve components? The 59-69 manual just shows "component #19 damper valve". Any help greatly appreciated.

67FLH, after the damper is installed into the fork tube, check to see how much your stack of parts can move up and down below the retainer ring. There should be no more than .004 play, if you have more than that you'll need to shim the valve assembly or you may wind up with a clunky noise. Pay close attention to the paper gaskets below the dampener tube bushing at the base of the slider, clean out all the old crap in the slider so you get a good seal. The manual has a section on this on page 37-47, It's confusing, but worth looking at. Also make sure the flatts on the dampener stud line up with the flatts in the hole in the slider base, one of mine had been tightened in the wrong spot, which messed up the alluminum hole at the base.
