Springer rod bushings

Can anyone tell me the correct orientation of the late (46-49) style springer rod bushings (balls)? These are the ones that look like a ball with 2 grooves cut in them and a large diameter sticking out one end and a small one sticking out the other. The HD parts book (exploded view) shows them with the larger diameter boss down into the fork ball socket. The hole at the bottom of the fork ball socket accepts the large diameter boss but does not allow the bushing (ball) to piviot around. It seems the other way round would be the only way to allow the bushing (ball) to pivot, if that's important?

Well, I figured it out myself.
The bushings only go one way so the cross-drilled grease passages are fed by the grease fittings in the sides of the fork head. This way allows them to pivot freely.
Should have looked at them closer....
At least anyone reading this won't make the same stupid mistake.
